A beautiful necklace recreated with Neiger Brothers beads and other vintage beads utilizing a classic Neiger Brothers design. It features an Indian motif with elephants. The light colored beads are uranium glass and glow green under black light. The necklace measures a generous 36 inches in circumference, with no clasp.
The Neiger Brothers were born in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia during the late 1800’s. The two brothers started a jewelry company together around 1905. The jewelry they created utilized Czech glass beads, filigree findings and fancy bead caps. In 1922 King Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered and ignited the Egyptian Revival craze, which the Neiger Brother’s jewelry reflected. They went on to include exotic elements from Chinese and Indian art. With the start of the war, and the invasion of Czechoslovakia, the brothers fled to Bohemia, where started another, smaller, workshop.
In 1942 they were arrested in Prague and sent to Auschwitz. Their jewelry has been “rediscovered” and is now collectable. Their remarkable talent will live on thru their jewelry and the legacy of their designs.
